Since the advent of social media, recruitment as we know it has dramatically changed. Gone are the days where recruitment advertising campaigns were narrow and only locally based.


Social media has given employers an opportunity to engage on a personal level?with prospective job seekers of which has given the recruitment process a unique dimension not seen since the arrival of the internet.?Social media is a recruitment advertising medium?that can be?leveraged?to black Tim jersey focus recruitment advertising campaigns on specific job seekers who have indicated an interest in a topic or organization that is closely linked to the position be recruited to.


In two recent recruitment campaigns that I managed of which social media was part of the overall advertising strategy; my experiences were both positive and negative. However, before I discuss in further detail my experiences, I need to clarify what exactly social media is and what advertising mediums are considered to be?"social media".


WHAT IS SOCIAL MEDIA?


According to dictionary.com, social media is described as ‘web sites and other online means of communication that are used by large groups of people to share information and to develop social and professional contacts'. The two current most popular social media outlets are?Facebook,?Twitter?and?Linkedin. Other less popular social media outlets are MySpace, Yammer, Foursquare and Google Plus. Each one of these social media platforms are great mediums for adverting positions vacant and for enhancing your recruitment campaign.


WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS AND RISKS OF USING SOCIAL MEDIA FOR RECRUITMENT ADVERTISING?


The advantages of using social media for?recruitment advertising?must always be balanced with the negatives when considering using any platform of social media for recruitment purposes.


The benefits of using social media for recruitment purposes are obvious, so I will be black Tim jersey brief in describing them:



You are given access to job seekers interested in your product, industry or organization.
Due to the size of social media, the exposure can be greater than using traditional forms of advertising like newspapers and internet jobs boards.
It's free and easy to use.

A great experience I had with using social media for recruitment advertising?was during a recruitment campaign for a very large event my black Tim jersey organisation was delivering. We were recruiting 120 customer service officers and used Facebook and Twitter as our main social media platform. Due to the high level of transferable skills the positions entailed (low skilled) and due to our target audience primarily being university students and others seeking short-term employment,Facebook was perfect for our recruitment marketing campaign and generated lots of enquires and applications.
